5 Things to Know

Things You Should Know Before You Have An Abortion

1. You want to make sure you are pregnant…

Before undergoing a medical or surgical abortion, it’s important to be certain you are pregnant. Our pregnancy tests are hospital quality, as opposed to home tests, which are not always accurate. During your consultation a registered nurse can answer any questions you have regarding the procedure. We can provide a complimentary sonogram to confirm you are pregnant.

 2. You want to know how far along you are and if you have a progressing pregnancy…

Since as many as 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, it is important for you to determine how far your pregnancy is progressing and confirm that the fetus is in the uterus and has a heartbeat.  An ultrasound is the most reliable way to determine gestation and viability.  We can do that for you.

 3. You want to evaluate all the pros and cons of your decision…

You have a legal right to choose the outcome of your pregnancy. However, considering an abortion may be personal and difficult. We provide you with a medically recognized decision-making tool. A trained, compassionate advocate can provide you with a confidential consultation, and health care staff can answer any questions you have regarding the type or nature of the abortion procedure.

 4. You want to know if you have a sexual disease…

It is important to determine if you have a sexually transmitted infection (STI).  If you choose an abortion with an untreated STI, you will be at high risk for infection and complications.  We provide you abortion information  with an on-site registered nurse.

 5. You want to know about the physical and emotional risks involved with abortion…

An abortion is an irreversible medical procedure. There are different abortion procedures depending on how far along you are in this pregnancy.  Each procedure has medical risks and side affects. We can provide information regarding abortion procedures and risks for 1st and 2nd trimester abortions. Also, many women may need emotional support after an abortion.
